Open for projects — 1–2 slots

You know the industry. We turn it into a product — for equity, not invoices.

You have watched the problem from the inside for years and know how to fix it. We handle the rest: demand validation, the build, launch and first users. Instead of a development fee we take equity.

Why this exists

Why practitioners’ ideas never reach a product

We cover exactly that gap — before a year and your savings are gone.

01

Nobody to build it

You know the industry better than any developer. But an agency ships the spec you wrote — including its mistakes.

02

Building the wrong thing

Six months of work, a polished product, zero users. Demand was never tested up front.

03

Building for too long

Version one grows into a system. By launch the feedback is stale and the money is gone.

Process

How it works

Five steps from application to first users. After each one either side can stop.

  1. 01

    Application

    10 minutes

A short form: who you are, the idea, what you have already done by hand.

  2. 02

    Intro call

    1 call

Half an hour pulling the idea apart. Useful even if we stop here.

  3. 03

    Demand check

    1–2 weeks

Customer interviews, fake doors, a manual service. No code yet.

  4. 04

    MVP

    4–8 weeks

A minimum product answering one question. Anything manual stays manual.

  5. 05

    Launch & growth

    ongoing

First users, activation and retention metrics, acquisition channels.

Screening and terms in detail — see terms of collaboration.

Division of labour

You bring the industry, we bring the product

You do not have to quit your business. We need your expertise and a few hours a week — the rest is our job.

On you

  • Industry knowledge: what actually hurts and why earlier fixes failed
  • Access to people — first conversations, first users, first money
  • Product calls that cannot be made without industry experience
  • 5–8 hours a week: a call, answers to our questions, testing ideas on your contacts

On us

  • Demand validation before code: interviews, fake doors, a manual service
  • Product framing: one-pager, hypothesis map, success criteria
  • Design, build, launch and all the technical plumbing
  • Monetisation, metrics and channels for the first users

Five to eight hours a week is the floor below which the project stops moving. Without your industry we would build beautiful emptiness.

What this looks like in practice — see the Furniture Conveyor write-up: the founder brought the furniture costing methodology, the lab built the product.

How this differs from a dev shop

The difference is not price. It is whose interests match yours after signing.

Screening

Who we fit — and who we do not

We look harder at the person than at the idea: ideas pivot, industry experience stays.

Probably yes

  • You know the industry from the inside
  • The idea serves a market, not just your own company — someone would pay for a second copy
  • You have already built something by hand: a spreadsheet, a bot, a manual process
  • You will talk to customers yourself
  • You can find 5–8 hours a week and hold that pace
  • You trade equity for a product, not a deck

Probably no

  • You need an internal system for your own business — that is a contract job, cash is cheaper
  • You need a vendor for a finished spec — we are a poor fit for that
  • The idea cannot be discussed without an NDA on call one
  • You want a guarantee that the project works
  • Total certainty about demand, zero customer conversations
  • You will start on it once you free up

Self-check

Not sure you fit? Find out in two minutes

We opened up the eight questions we pull incoming applications apart with. Answer them and you get a score across four axes, your weak spots and what to do about them. Useful even if you never send the application.

  • Eight questions, every answer shows its weight
  • Scored on four axes: industry, market, evidence, commitment
  • Weak spots explained, with links to the knowledge base
  • No sign-up: the result stays in your browser

Questions

The short answers

I am not a startup person, I run a business. Is this for me?

Most likely yes — that is our main type of founder. The best projects come from practitioners who have watched a problem for years, not from people with a deck. You do not have to quit your business.

How much of my time does it take?

Around 5–8 hours a week: a call, answers to industry questions and conversations with potential customers from your own network. Less than that and the project stalls — we will say so up front.

Why equity instead of cash?

Cash is the scarcest resource at the start, and equity is cheap today. We only earn if the company grows — so building extra is against our interest.

How much equity?

A few percent to reach an MVP, with vesting. The range depends on your own contribution: the more you carry, the smaller the lab’s stake.

What if the project fails?

That is the most likely outcome for any early project and we carry the risk with you — you owe nothing. Our job is to get the negative answer in week six, not year two.

How many projects at once?

One or two, deliberately. If there is no free slot we say so and give you a date.
